Professor of plant ecology and biogeography at the Aix-Marseille University
Frédéric Médail is full Professor of plant ecology and biogeography at the Aix-Marseille University (IMBE, Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Ecology, UMR AMU/CNRS/IRD/UAPV). His broad research interests include the biogeography and conservation of plants around the Mediterranean Basin, based upon phylogeography, conservation genetics and community ecology. He has published more than 220 scientific papers (73 papers indexed in SCI) and 3 books. He is member of 15 international or national scientific councils.
Frédéric Médail is full Professor (Professeur des Universités) of plant ecology and biogeography at the Aix-Marseille University / IMBE (Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Ecology, UMR AMU/CNRS/IRD/UAPV).
His main topics of research concern the biogeography and conservation of plant biodiversity at several geographical scales, from conservation genetics to macroecology, within the Mediterranean Biogeographic Region. His current researches are focused on the biogeographic process linked to the origin and evolution of the Mediterranean flora, and their implications towards a conservation biogeography framework.
He also performs researches devoted to insular ecology, functional biogeography and was involved into several programmes concerning the ecological and evolutionary consequences of biological invasion. He is the author of more than 220 scientific publications (73 articles in SCI indexed Journals ; 50 articles in journals with editorial board ; 3 textbooks ; 50 chapters of books ; 48 other publications).
He is member of 15 national and international scientific committees and 6 scientific societies.
From 1997 onwards, he has coordinated or participated in over 42 projects (14 international projects and 28 national projects).
He has been teaching for 22 years now, including more than 40 courses on biogeography, ecology, conservation, population biology.
He has organized two international conferences and was involved in several scientific councils of international symposia. He has performed 27 invited talks and 85 other oral presentations at national and international conferences and workshops.
